These are examples of activities in which I was involved, which I led and or helped to shape. Some of my business customers are private and or no images have been recorded. There is more visual material of public activities, such as festivals, public workshops, social activities.
Workshops on Innovativeness
At the end of 2019 I gave workshop "Future Proof Thinking" in Venice for clients of Umana Forma (Italy). Just in time. Less than a month ago, the Corona crisis set foot there for the first time in Europe.
I once gave a creativity workshop to the top of a national newspaper. They somewhat rejected the need, because, according to them, after drafting a newspaper, it is mainly an exercise to fill in different pages and sections. Less than six months later, the Metro (1st free newspaper) appeared and many media went digital, which challenged many newspapers to renew.
Other clients include: Rabo bank, Municipality of Utrecht, Sogeti on behalf of Lumage, Deltion college and HAN University of Applied Sciences, Bawag Bank (Austria).
Process Facilitation
I have supervised parts of processes or the whole at very diverse conferences, meetings and meetings. That started as 7x evening chairman of the night of architecture in Friesland. Continued as a participating organizer of the Castle Borl meetings (from which the 'Art of Hosting' network arose) and the Chaosforum conferences (which, among other things, turned out to be the impetus for the Rhineland model).
My contributions varied from organizing a large World Café dialogue together with Bert van der Neut, playing the conference jester at a scientific conference to cheer up and keep participants sharp, activating day chairmanship for party in Almere, MC being together with others at StandUpInspiration and later StandUpStories.
I was also involved in more activist meetings about new money systems, around bank of the future and various unconferences and in 2010 at the Laboratory of the Future, which was eyeing 2022.
Clients ao: BIG Congress, Bio-mimicry congress, KM4dev congress.
RITUALS
I have accompanied opening and closing rituals in several places for several years, alone or together, such as for three festivals. The Open-Up festival (which I also co-founded), the Permanent Beta festival and the Happy Start Up Summer Camp (England) Two are unfortunately, partly due to Corona defunct, the last restart in 2022.
In a good opening ritual you immediately meet a lot of new people, in such a way that you already pick out some sensible and fun ones to find later. You become acquainted with the desired basic principles of the organization, and you choose with which focus you enter and/or exit the festival.
I could also mention warm ups with more than 200 starting students from the art college Minerva in Groningen.
In addition, I have several times at multi-day meetings, among others. guided small Nature Quests and even 1x a wedding ceremony and a funeral.
Workshops on Facilitating Processes
In spring 2021 I gave a workshop to employees of Squarewise who supervise energy transition processes. To this end, they often bring parties together, such as government, citizens, and energy companies to find better solutions together. My task: how do we learn to make it even better and more fun for participants?
For the IRC (International Water and Sanitation Center) I gave a workshop on facilitating group processes for national employees from various countries in Africa and Asia. For example, how do you set up Open Space or World Café meetings to think about a joint approach with the community?
Together with 2 Spanish and an Irish partner I gave 'Art of Hosting' training in Spain. Together with the participants, we looked at working methods, attitude, discussion management and more. I once stood at the foot of this movement, as facilitator of the meeting where it was born.
Other clients include: IAF conference for facilitation specialists, Lumage, Knowmads business school, or more applied such as 'Teaching for Teachers' (at Vienna Business School and Education Conference in the Ukraine), or workshop 'Conflict Prevention' (VMBO Alkmaar).
Acts, acting in training & acting in role plays.
I once worked as an event designer for DolDrama on Location, and as a game leader, in which I played roles such as Godfather, King, Emperor Caligula. I am still used in such roles at large events. Here I have also learned to guide, feel and sharpen large groups at the intersection of process, structure & storylines.
This again because of my background as an actor in training. Only to be asked for complex situations in which I can think along with the trainer.
I also only do acts and performances for companies on request in special cases. For example as the conference jester, or with forum theater leading around social issues.
Workshops on Creativity
I am also a kind of social inventor who develops new views or ideas in various areas. See also my current projects. Or discover 16 different social inventions in article on LinkedIn. Because of this and because of my theater work in which improvisation plays a major role, I am, I think, very creative and can release this well in others. For example, on a number of occasions I have helped employees of the municipality of Enschede to break free from their own frameworks.
Creativity and applied forms, such as game design, require an attitude approach, insight into blockages, methods and processes to achieve something and tricks to get out of the box. Sometimes that has to be done very quickly.
Together with Set-up Utrecht I supervised Game Storms a number of times, in which employees of municipalities had to come up with game concepts for problems they were struggling with.
Clients include: Lumage, HvA Hogeschool, COCD (Creative thinking experts), T-mobile, NHS (England), Umana Forma (Italy), Die Lichtfabrik (Austria), Whisper (Belgium)
Workshops on Communication
My very first time, in the late 90's giving a workshop to software managers, I boasted that bad communication about software services to companies could cost hundreds of thousands due to misunderstanding.
"No," my bluff was punctured, "that costs many millions." That is why it is so important that people and companies understand each other well.
Delivered playful communication workshops on behalf of Lumage at Sogeti, including many times the "Ability Test" in which participants applied their learned knowledge to unforeseen circumstances as the final exam of a lesson series.
Been training theater sports/theatre improvisation for 30 years. In addition to many individual applied theater sports workshops, he also gave a series of lessons at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to improve flexible communication. Taught at teams such as the Noord Sterren, Franje, Something Anders, Tot tot de Dom falls, DOM, TVA Amsterdam and Ymprov.
Also gave presentation workshops, speaking skills, in addition to many of the above-mentioned clients, including the CITO group.
Also taught dialogue and debate, among others to Business College and various other clients.
Very diverse Open Workshops
I experimented a lot when I could, with open workshops. The following can be ordered on request:
The Way of the Fool. What is the power of the fool? How can a free role contribute attuned to a whole? This workshop makes people more creative, less stressed and more empathetic towards others.
Make money with your weaknesses. (also: What is your Value?) In this workshop you examine your self-image about your weaknesses and which qualities are hidden in them. Very suitable for students, people with insufficient self-knowledge or too much self-doubt.
Guru Battle. In this workshop we play a crazy battle, everyone can be a guru, but who can stay on the throne the longest? In the meantime we investigate together: Where in ourselves do we find the place from which our deep wisdom comes? How can we learn to speak from there?
Everything you should have had in school but never learned there. The title says it all. Can be used as a one-off lecture, but also as, as with Knowmads, a long series of lessons for students and young professionals. Here they learn failure, assertiveness, living without regrets, magic of life, naming their own qualities, singing your heart out and other workshops.
Swarm leadership. How can we work together without leaders? How can we bring about change bottom-up? What can we learn from bees and ants, among other things? This workshop was given to energy transition managers in the Netherlands and to the Institute for Democratic Education in Israel.
Storytelling (aka Breakthrough by Metaphor) How do you become a good storyteller? And when you tell stories or make up fairy tales, what message do you give to yourself and others? How do you defeat your inner dragon?
And a whole lot more. Game design, Singing, Piano lessons, Drawing, Acting, Spiral Dynamics, Vital Life, Tantra, Contact Impro Dance, Writing, etc.
What have I learned myself from all that variety?
- I remain enthusiastic about it. Every time I ask about something I haven't done for a while, I think: wow I can do this again. That makes me happy. It keeps me sharp. I always start a little unsure. My intuition always comes up with essential insights. This creates the atmosphere that I am discovering together with the participants. Wonderful. I can see many connections. Having been active in many fields and professions, I have always prepared anecdotes and metaphors with insights from other fields, which are new to the people I work with.
